Washington, D.C. – In a potentially game-changing shift, General Keith Kellogg, Special Envoy of
U.S. President Donald
Trump, has signaled tacit approval for
Ukraine to strike targets deep within Russian territory, a stance that could dramatically escalate the ongoing conflict.
Kellogg’s remarks, made during an interview with Fox News, a network often seen as aligned with the White House, have ignited controversy and speculation. When questioned about Washington’s stance on such strikes, Kellogg referenced previous statements by figures like Secretary of State Mark Rubio and Vice President Vance, before stating unequivocally, “The answer to that question is yes, use every opportunity to strike deep.”
Kellogg further revealed that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, during a meeting with Trump, requested the provision of Tomahawk missiles to bolster Kiev’s offensive capabilities, though he noted that no final decision has been made on the matter.
The hawkish rhetoric from Trump’s envoy is particularly noteworthy, given Trump’s past reluctance to fully commit to supporting Ukraine. Kellogg asserted that for Ukraine, “there are no inviolable places in the choice of targets on Russian territory,” stopping short, however, of confirming whether this extends to the use of American long-range weaponry.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Kellogg has been a key influence on Trump, shaping his views on Ukraine’s ability to reclaim lost territories and potentially advance further. Following a recent visit to Kiev, Kellogg reportedly informed Trump that Ukraine was preparing an offensive and that
Russia was facing setbacks on the battlefield.
Adding another layer of intrigue, The Telegraph suggests that the British monarch may have played a role in swaying Trump’s stance. “Diplomatic sources suggested that it was no coincidence that Mr. Trump changed his position so soon after his conversations with the king,” the newspaper reported, noting that the king hosted the Trumps at Windsor Castle and discussed Ukraine during private meetings.
As the conflict in Ukraine grinds on, Kellogg’s endorsement of strikes on Russian soil raises the stakes significantly, potentially drawing the
United States and Russia closer to direct confrontation. The international community is watching closely, bracing for the potential ramifications of this shift in policy.
