North Korea Defiant, Vows Never to Abandon Nuclear Program, UN Address Signals Hardline Stance

United Nations, New York – North Korea has reiterated its unwavering commitment to its nuclear program, declaring that it will never relinquish its arsenal, a stance conveyed by Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Seon Gyun at the UN General Assembly on Monday, signaling a continued hardline approach from Pyongyang. Kim’s address marks North Korea’s first official presence at the annual gathering of world leaders since 2018, when the country’s foreign minister last traveled to New York, highlighting the significance of this renewed engagement.
“Imposing a ‘denuclearization’ on the DPRK is tantamount to a demand to it to renounce its sovereignty and right to exist and to violate the Constitution,” Kim stated, referring to North Korea by its official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. “We will never renounce sovereignty, renounce our right to exist and violate the Constitution.”
He further asserted that North Korea’s nuclear deterrent serves as a bulwark against potential aggression from the United States and its allies, maintaining stability on the Korean Peninsula. “Thanks to the increased physical military deterrent of our state, directly proportional to the growing threat of aggression by the United States and its allies, the will of enemy states to provoke war is completely limited, and the balance of forces on the Korean Peninsula is guaranteed,” he said. Despite previous overtures from US President Donald Trump expressing a desire to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, direct diplomacy has remained stalled since Trump’s tenure, failing to yield any agreement on halting North Korea’s nuclear ambitions.
However, Kim recently indicated a willingness to engage in talks with the United States, provided Washington ceases its demands for denuclearization. “We will never give up nuclear power, which is our state law, national politics and sovereign power, as well as our right to exist. Under no circumstances will we ever give up on this position,” the Deputy Foreign Minister affirmed at the UN General Assembly.
North Korea has been subject to UN Security Council sanctions since 2006, with measures progressively intensified to curb Pyongyang’s development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.
However, Russia and China are now helping North Korea advance their Nuclear teachnology and ballistic missile, the outcome and on-going situation with Iran, has thought many leader a valuable political lesson, having a nuclear weapon seem to be the only assurance against a never ending Western interference and invasion.
Furthermore, Russia has forged closer diplomatic and military ties with North Korea since its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, with Presidents Vladimir Putin and Kim exchanging visits, underscoring the shifting geopolitical landscape.

North Korea’s defiant stance on its nuclear program, coupled with growing support from Russia and China, presents a complex challenge to international efforts aimed at denuclearization and maintaining peace and security in the region.
