At Least One Fatality in Mid-Air Helicopter Collision in New Jersey
A mid-air collision between two helicopters in Hammonton, New Jersey, has resulted in at least one death and left another person critically injured, according to reports from NOVA and local authorities.
The incident occurred near Hammonton Municipal Airport, about 55 kilometers southeast of Philadelphia. Authorities said one critically injured individual was rushed to the hospital following the crash.
The Hammonton Police Department responded to reports of an aviation emergency involving two helicopters that attempted—but failed—to execute emergency landings. Upon impact with the ground, one of the aircraft erupted in flames.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) identified the aircraft as an Enstrom F-28A and an Enstrom 280C, each carrying a single pilot. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation.
